What it does
Trade-in tools put a valuation form on the dealer website and inside digital retailing. A shopper enters a VIN or plate, mileage and condition, and gets an estimated value or a firm offer. The tool sends the result to the CRM as a lead with the vehicle details attached.
Trade-in is often the first step a shopper takes online. The value they see sets expectations for the rest of the deal, so the gap between the online number and the in-store appraisal matters. A range that is too wide can feel vague. A number that is too high and later cut erodes trust.
Many tools now offer guaranteed or firm offers backed by an inspection, sometimes with photos captured by the shopper. These overlap with instant offer and acquisition programs. Decide whether you want the trade tool to support a sale, buy cars outright, or both.
Who in the store uses it
- Used car managers: set valuation rules and confirm numbers in person.
- Internet sales managers and BDC: follow up on trade leads.
- Desk managers: carry the trade value into the deal.
- Marketing managers: place the tool on the site and track lead volume.
