How we build the index
Retail Auto Software is researched and edited by the More Than Cars team. Here is where listings come from, how they are organized and how to correct them.

The process
1. Research
We start from vendor websites and press releases, and from products suggested through the site.
2. Organize
Each product is tied to the company that makes it and placed in one primary category, plus any other categories it covers.
3. Check
An editor checks each listing before it goes live. Company pages show the date their details were last checked.
4. Correct
Anyone can suggest a correction. An editor reviews it within 48 hours, and renamed products keep their old addresses working.
What a listing contains
A company is the business behind a product. A product is a specific offering a dealer can buy or use. Every listing has the same set of fields, shown here on a company picked at random from the index.
- Name.
- The current name. Former names are kept so older names still find it.
- Short description.
- One plain sentence on what it does.
- Headquarters and founded.
- Where the company is based and when it started, where known.
- Categories.
- The work its products support, with one primary category each.

Departments and categories
Categories describe the work a product supports. Departments group related categories the way a store is organized. A product can sit in several categories; it appears in each one and is counted once per department.
How ordering works
Browse results start A to Z, and can be sorted by date added. A few places pick at random on each visit, and say so: the home page department spotlights, product examples in guides and the related companies on a company page. Search suggestions match the words you type against names, former names and descriptions.
Sources and corrections
Details come from company websites and press releases, and from vendor submissions an editor has checked. If something is wrong or missing, send a correction with the product name and the detail that needs attention. Corrections are reviewed within 48 hours.
