What it does
These tools use AI to answer calls, reply to texts and emails, and follow up on leads. A person does not need to be on every conversation. Common jobs include booking service appointments, answering inventory questions, setting sales appointments and reviving old leads. Some also take overflow calls after hours or when the phones get busy.
The test is how well the agent works with your people. A good setup knows when to hand a customer to a human. It logs everything in the CRM and follows your store's rules on pricing talk. Calls and texts also carry consent and recording requirements that vary by state. Treat the agent like a new hire you supervise closely during the first months, with regular transcript reviews.
Who in the store uses it
- BDC manager: sets scripts, reviews conversations and manages handoffs.
- Service manager and advisors: receive booked appointments and callback requests.
- Sales managers: take appointments and escalated shoppers.
- Operators and receptionists: route calls the agent can't handle.
- Compliance or office staff: check consent records and call recording practices.
