What it does

eContracting tools generate retail installment and lease contracts, capture electronic signatures and deliver the contract package to the lender digitally. They pull deal data so numbers match the approval, and they check for missing fields before the package is sent.

Electronic contracts fund faster and have fewer errors than paper. That reduces contracts in transit and the cash tied up in them. Most major lenders accept eContracts, and many dealers now use them on the large majority of deals.

eContracting pairs naturally with remote and online deals, where the customer signs from home. It also connects to electronic title, which more states now require. Check lender coverage, state forms and how the tool stores the authoritative copy of each contract.

Who in the store uses it

  • F&I managers: generate contracts and guide customers through signing.
  • Title clerks and office staff: track funding and fix errors.
  • Finance directors: watch funding times and contracts in transit.
  • Customers: sign in the store or remotely.

What it connects to

  • Credit and lending platforms
  • Desking and F&I menu software
  • DMS (deal data and posting)
  • Lender funding systems
  • Title and registration tools
  • Digital retailing (remote signing)

What to ask vendors

  • Which lenders accept eContracts through your platform?
  • Do you support the contract forms required in our states?
  • Can customers sign remotely, and how is identity confirmed?
  • How do you catch errors before the package goes to the lender?
  • How is the original electronic contract stored and transferred?
  • Does deal data flow from our desking and F&I tools?
  • What reporting shows funding times by lender?
  • What does each contract cost?

Signs it's time to switch

  • Most deals are still on paper.
  • Contracts come back from lenders for missing items.
  • Funding takes days longer than it should.
  • Remote buyers have to come in to sign.
  • Deal data is retyped into contracts.
